This started off as a rumour in French paper Le Figaro this morning: Marion Cotillard was to reunite with Inception director Christopher Nolan for The Dark Knight Rises. Within a day, the information was being relayed in every film website and depending on who you trust, it's either a done deal or still in negociations.
Rumours had actually been rife over the last few months that she was in the running for the part of Catwoman, which eventually went to Anne Hathaway. While you can trust Christopher Nolan for his sense of casting (it's hard to remember how nobody believed Heath Ledger would be any good as the Joker!), I still feel Marion would have been absolutely perfect for the part, adding her feline and menacing presence already witnessed in Inception.
With rumours flying around, it's everybody's guess what part she might be playing. Some anonymous source revealed that her part would tie it all up together, which seems to suggest she would play Talia Al Ghul, daughter of Ras Al Ghul (played by Liam Neeson in Batman begins) and new love interest for Bruce Wayne. She is far too good an actress to be playing some dumb damsel in distress so there's hoping this is true.
I love the way Christopher Nolan is pretty much bringing back all of his cast from Inception, with Tom Hardy already cast as Bane, Michael Caine, who is in all his films, and rumours of Joseph Gordon Lewitt joining in... Is he sure there is no way he can fit in Ellen Page somewhere (as Harley Quinn?) And bring Ken Watanabe's character back from the dead despite his demise in Batman begins? Building up his own acting family is a true sign that, on top of being extremely talented, he must be a joy to work with!
