I admit my comparison with City Boys was not well explained, as it was more their/his actions that I was referring to as opposed to their personality. But I'm all open for debate on this one so thanks again! I'm going to check out your review now, very curious to read different opinionsLaurent de Albertihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08530023314058023203noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5476675923402016635.post-14934694584950068502011-10-18T00:09:02.882+01:002011-10-18T00:09:02.882+01:00Oooh, it's a nicely written piece, but I have ...Oooh, it's a nicely written piece, but I have to disagree.

"In fact, unlike what a true addiction might cause, you never feel that his compulsion threatens to derail his life in any way."

I think the tragedy is compounded by the fact that Brandon is ostensibly, outwardly able to get on with his life. Yes, he has a job and a nice flat, but he is completely alone with his demons and his compulsive behaviour; think of the scene when his computer is returned - that's the stuff of 14-year old boy's nightmares, not a grown man. Furthermore, look at the savagely brief end to his putative relationship with Nicole Beharie.

Brandon is clearly a sensitive, thoughtful guy which sets him apart from the boorish city boys you mention.

Also, thanks for reminding me of Crimes of Passion - what a cracking film!

Here's my take on Shame: http://bit.ly/pb8r3b

Best,
AAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
